About the Atelier Dog
Our Story
Based in France, The Atelier Dog was founded in 2021 as a quiet dream between a mother and a daughter. Susanne, an illustrator and art therapist, had always dreamed of capturing the spirit of Terriers in colored pencil and watercolor, inspired by her first beloved Fox Terrier, Lotta.
When we suddenly lost Susanne’s husband, grief and financial uncertainty almost made us give up on everything. To find a path forward, and a reason to keep going, Sarah-Julie, a creative director and designer, joined her mother to accelerate the launch of our project. The incredible warmth of the terrier community on Instagram held us up during our darkest days, helping us turn a healing process into a real, shared journey.
Now in our fifth year, we have grown together as artists. Sarah-Julie eventually picked up the digital stylus to join her mother as a co-illustrator, blending modern digital textures with Susanne’s traditional, hand-drawn warmth. Though we heartbreakingly lost Lotta to a terrible illness, her spirit remains our foundation. Today, our studio is kept bright, busy, and inspired by our two new muses: Finja the Fox Terrier and Cowboy the Lakeland Terrier.
Every drawing we create reflects our deep love for animals, often with a gentle touch of humor.
A Slower, More Personal Way of Shopping
With rising inflation and overhead costs, we made the conscious decision to close our automated online shop. Today, we have returned to a slower, more personal, and human-scaled way of sharing our art with you.
You won’t find an automated checkout button here. Instead, our website has become a quiet library for our collections. You can browse our catalogs, use our order form, or simply send us a Direct Message on Instagram, or click here to E-mail us to purchase our physical greeting cards, prints, bookmarks, and stickers. We also share fresh, digital wallpapers and sticker packs monthly over on our Patreon.
It’s simple, it’s mindful, and it allows us to connect directly with you, which is exactly how we like it.
Our Commitment & Sustainability
We founded The Atelier Dog to create gentle, sustainable alternatives to mass-produced goods. Large corporations generate massive amounts of waste, maintain long supply chains, and consume far too many raw materials. We believe in keeping things local and mindful.
- Sustainable Papers: When selecting papers for our greeting cards and prints, we only choose premium, sustainable, and recyclable options.
- Eco-Conscious Shipping: For our packaging, we select natural materials and try to reuse cardboard boxes as much as possible to minimize waste.
- Locally Crafted: Everything is designed, printed, and hand-packaged with care in France.
